(But, aha, I didn't actually realize they were saying 没事儿 rather than just 没事. That slight "r" sound that's sometimes at the end makes sense now! It's not that I didn't notice it before, but I never thought about it being 儿 rather than just an accent/pronunciation thing...)

(And I didn't even think about there being two different verbs for "see," but I just now noticed 她没有看到你 in the examples in the link. Am I right in thinking that 没有看到 is like, "failed to visually perceive," vs. 没有见过 being more like "did not meet up with or run across"?)

The ~proper~ term for this is quite literally 儿化/兒化/erhua, summarised pretty well in the Wikipedia entry. I'd say it is an accent thing actually – we don't use it at all in my corner of SEA (to the point where anyone who does use it means a dead giveaway for Not From Here), and I don't think it's typically written out either? Not feeling motivated enough to check right now but I'm like… 99% sure the Guardian Chinese hardsubs for instance don't do it.

(I also have some vague impression of being taught to represent it with a small 儿 e.g. 事儿 if you did write it out but I'm pretty sure nobody actually does this.)

Personally I'd drop the 有 from this one (unless emphasising it as in 我真的没有去过 etc) but it's grammatical either way!

And yes 看 and 见 do have different nuances but my brain is too kaput from CNY to verbalise it right now. /pokes the reboot button

Aside from its use as a diminutive, erhua in the Beijing dialect also serves to differentiate word is very cool, and also the differences in regional erhua as well.

The only accent identification I can do is a sliding scale from "oh yeah I understand this" to "are we even still speaking the same language??" XD

And yeah, aside from the exceptions noted on the wiki page (which are specific to Beijing dialect anyway) it's just a pronunciation difference… albeit a fairly notable one given that at least some uses seem to be codified in standard Putonghua pronunciation. Which is expected, given Beijing and all.

(Arguably even 过 could be superfluous – 昨天我没去 itself already works, though I feel 过 adds the emphasis of "didn't go at all"?)

I mostly experience regional dialect differences IRL as "extremely varying levels of being able to understand this person depending on where they're from" but yeah if you boiled it down to the essentials it's probably made up of many small variations like these added together to a Confusion Snowball.

yup, like trobadora said, the subs don't have the 儿. I tend to use a (partial) Guardian script put online sometime back by a saintly cfan, which seems to deviate a little from the subs (there are one or two notes along the lines of "the subs say X but it sounds like Y" etc.), and it uses 没事儿。
and thank you for the 儿化 explanation! Dialects are fun (even if I should master, like, beginning 普通话 before I start thinking about anything else).

yeah, as I was saying in another comment the Guardian script I use, put online a while back by a saintly cfan, doesn't quite follow the subs and does add the 儿。 (I know Bai Yu, at least, is a northerner, so maybe that's where the sound comes from? /uninformed).

So of course I had to go look it up – the last CNY that fell on Feb 1 was in 2003, then 1946 (holy shit) before that. Though of course it falls back out of sync right again afterwards due to the different month lengths.

It's a particular favourite of Zhu Yilong characters (see relevant icon, but also the amount of times Luo Fusheng says it... XD), but anything fantasy or period is just generally overflowing. Wait, does that make it a trope? I think that makes it a trope.

Conducted a scientific study (read: mentally sped through all the example sentences on that page) and tentatively confirmed my hypothesis that it's grammatical either way. More of a nuance difference similar-ish to "didn't" vs "did not"? In my impression 没有 sounds more colloquial (Mandarin being a case of poetic brevity = elegant refinement as I'm sure a thousand character analyses of Lan Wangji have pointed out) and/or possibly carries more emphasis on the negation as mentioned above?

And if there's nothing attached after it then you probably want 没有 ("没有啊！我真的没有！" - annoyingly petulant character from the hypothetical drama)
