语法
V + 完 for doing something completely
https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/grammar/Result_complement_%22-wan%22_for_finishing
I quite like this one. (My understanding is that 完了 by itself means "done for," "screwed up" or similar!)
词汇
快, fast (pinyin in tags)
https://mandarinbean.com/new-hsk-1-word-list/
Guardian:
让我说完, let me finish
你的粥也喝完了, you've finished eating [drinking] your congee
我猜到我们还会再见面,可这也太快了, I guessed we would meet again, but this is a bit too fast
Me:
你走得太快了,能不能一边走路一边看风景?
我终于翻译完了那个论文,好麻烦啊。

Date: 2022-07-09 02:37 am (UTC)Oh, interesting! I don't remember if I've seen that one before, but it makes sense. (I love that English "finished" and "done [for]" have the exact same figurative meanings as 完!) Wiktionary tells me 完蛋 means the same thing, which I didn't know either. And now I'm laughing at Wiktionary's description of how 蛋 functions as a suffix: "suffix denoting 'person of certain characteristics,' usually with a pejorative tone," e.g. 傻蛋, 笨蛋. So I guess 完蛋 is a... person whose characteristics are that they are finished. XD
(I thought 玩完, which is the word I knew for "done for," was Cantonese-only, but now I'm not sure, since the example sentence for it on Wiktionary is in Mandarin: 这下算是玩完了, "We're (finally) screwed this time." Anybody know if this is actually used in Mandarin?)

Wiktionary's description of how 蛋 functions as a suffix: "suffix denoting 'person of certain characteristics,' usually with a pejorative tone,"
哈哈哈, yeah, I wonder if that's a very formal version of something like the English "you--!" or the French "espèce d'..." (which I only know from Tintin).
玩完 is new to me and I want to translate it as "played out," but your sample sentence suggests that wouldn't quite work... .

…so, しまった? XD sorta. And 完蛋 also as
grayswandir pointed out, what would language be even without 300 ways to express the extent to which Oooooo You're So Done For This Time

Date: 2022-07-09 10:09 pm (UTC)哈哈对啊. (Is it used like しまった as a mild swear word, or would that be more like 糟了?).

你说得对。Another good reason to use dramas/songs/漫画/etc. as (supplementary) language texts...

Standards vary by context, of course, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who considers any of these even mild swears except like maybe real strict teachers. Admittedly that may be because of the entire plethora of many many swears Chinese does have, there's no shortage even without bringing in dialect swears XD

Date: 2022-07-17 11:04 pm (UTC)Ha yeah fair enough, it's the same in Japanese, I guess. (I remember as a baby Japanese student asking my 学姐 "How do you say 'I'm screwed' in Japanese?" the day before a test; she looked doubtful and said ..."困った?" which just doesn't have the same ring to it.)
