Haha no. I'm grateful for every simplification that reduces the complexity of a character; it makes them so much easier for me to remember. *g*

SHL, being a wuxia set in vague-dynasty historical China, has not a lot of electricity in it ... and not a single 电. (Not even 雷电!)

Hah, I'm the opposite. XD The simplified ones all look the same to me, I can't tell them apart! (Though actually 电 is an exception; it doesn't look much like anything else, except maybe a bit like 甩...)

Yeah, agreed about 电 not really looking like anything else. It's pretty unusual-looking.

(I think the first character other than 一个人 that I learned on my own, just from osmosis while watching Guardian with Chinese hardsubs under the English subs, was 心. Also very distinctive, IMO.)

Same! I think the first three characters I learned (likewise from hardsubs) were 人, 心, and 小. And the first compound word I learned was probably 小心, which came up a lot!

Yes and no in my case! Some of the 繁体字 my little not!niece in Taiwan is learning make me think "they're making six-year-olds write THAT"? (see 醫，畫 etc.), but some 简体字 like the 电 one are harder for me without the meaning component.

The main couple would like to object to this aspersion on their romance, I'm sure ;)

I'm pretty sure in the Japanese character the middle vertical line doesn't come up out of the top, making it even more kite-like ;)
