Ah, while scanning The Rebel episode 27 for the next lesson, I found this:
我一直盯着呢

(And apropos of the above discussion of the 直 variants, I entered it one way in my note text, based on how it looks in the hardsubs, but when I copy & paste it into the comment box, it's the other form. It's interesting how the browser does this. I guess it's based on the browser's default encoding?)

I think it's the website's font coding rather than the browser's, but yeah -- that's what I meant about realizing it was just a font difference. The same thing happens any time you paste a word into a textbox that uses a different default font from the place you copied from, in any language; we just don't notice it with English words because we're so used to seeing different fonts all the time, and we can just as easily read a lowercase "g" in Courier as in Arial, even though they actually look pretty different.
