Continued from yesterday, verb + 了 + duration + 了 to show continuing actions, but now with a transitive verb repeated after the object (verb + object + verb + 了 + duration + 了). (At least this is the last 了 for a while.)

Oh hey, finally this duolingo sentence makes grammatical sense!

I was confused that for a long time too. I thought undeadrobbins gave a really helpful explanation in this post:

With simple single-character verbs, such as 笑 (to smile), you simply add 得 before the adjective word or phrase (remembering to include 很 or other similar linking word, such as 非常, 不). 他笑得很高兴.

In cases where the verb has two or more characters, such as 睡觉, 跳舞 or 打篮球, you have to repeat the first character and add 得 before the adjective and the linking word. 他打网球打得很好. It's a little more complicated but it's the exact same idea.

哈哈, it's not STILL 了, it's 了 AGAIN. 不是还是了，而是再是了 (completely wrong grammar). But I think we're actually done with 了 for a while! (And welcome back!)

For some reason I find these easier, or, not easier exactly, but they're more like grammar in the languages I'm used to--"memorize this specific construction and it has this specific meaning"--as opopsed to all the other 了 ones and 就 and so on which I find too slippery to remember well.
