哈哈！在江湖我觉得没办法 (does 山河令 count as wuxia or xianxia, and is it 江湖 either way? I forget), but I'm convinced that Dragon City has trams and/or light rail, we just don't see them.

山河令 is wuxia. I think it's usually 江湖 either way (and definitely is in 山河令), but it depends - it's not really 江湖 if there's no regular society/governance in that world, is it? So it always feels off to me when people call it 江湖 in 魔道祖师/陈情令 ...

Totally agreed on Dragon City some sort of rail system! IIRC there are even rails visible in some of the street shots, but I can't find it just now.

That's a good point to think about. (I wonder if someone has done a thorough writeup somewhere of how MDZS/CQL is and is not historically accurate, there probably is one...).

Historically accurate to what era? Idk, I think it takes place in more of an alternate world where martial sects actually split all the territory between them and have territorial wars and such, and there's no evidence of any historical states, or any non-sect rulers anywhere at all. (Also, there are potatoes and chilis. *g*)

Yeah, I was thinking of something like "these hairstyles are from such-and-such era, these swords have nothing to do with historical practices at all, chilis [as you say] came much later, this kind of food is typical of such-and-such province from X date on," you know, analyzing where all the patchwork references come from (including "this just looks/sounds cool" and, although I suppose CQL was spared these things, "this was the cheapest alternative" lol.

Agree--I think the 了 itself is pretty straightforward, just that you can express duration by sticking the amount of time thereafter (without needing "for" or similar prepositions). (See also today's one in which you add another 了 after the amount of time to indicate that it's still going on.)
