For game suggestions -- friend and I have been playing shiritori for Japanese learning, with the optional goal of making a short sentence with our word (though now that I think about it, it would be more fun to make a sentence with the other person's word). Wiki suggests that there's a similar game in Chinese with taking the last character -- maybe something like that?

I feel like there should be a way to turn getting more practice with similar looking characters into a group game, as well, but I don't have anything off the top of my head!

Shiritori sounds good--I think that's the strictest version of the chengyu game, but we can also look into other versions! I know what you mean about character games, I'll think about it more. There's almost definitely something out there :)

Jason Zhang/Zhang Jie, G.E.M, and Mao Buyi (I still cry to 平凡的一天) are always safe choices... Mayday if you like rock. I'm a huge fan of Yisa Yu's voice but I'm not super familiar with her songs.

Many thanks! I'll go listen to more of all these people. I know Mao Buyi as "that very shy guy with the glasses" and I've heard a little bit of Yisa Yu; I know a couple of Mayday songs (and tend to think of them as "the Taiwanese Mr.Children" for reasons, which is not a bad thing). 🎵
