不能不想你, by Jiang Dunhao (solo and duet versions), and because the titles go so well together, 教我如何不想她 (sung by Dilber Yunus just to stick to the unrelated theme of Xinjiang-born singers, by its composer (my 偶像) Chao Yuen Ren himself, and by Chen Yonglong). This song is actually more important linguistically than musically! It’s from 1926, with lyrics by Liu Bannong, who used it to popularize the character 她 which he had just invented.

I'm never going to stop resenting that. You had a perfectly good gender-neutral pronoun, and you ruined it! *grumbles*

Too true. (Although at least it's still the same when spoken, you remember our debates around here about what exactly is going on in the lyrics to 纸短情长 ;)) And mainland Chinese just has 她, Taiwanese uses 妳 as the female second-person pronoun! (Wikipedia tells me that there are also 祢 and祂 used for deities, my goodness.)

I remember 纸短情长 and its pronoun confusion well! I do appreciate the ambiguity in spoken language; at least the people who wanted to establish different spoken pronouns too didn't win.

That's wild about using lyrics to popularize 她. I knew it was recent, but I didn't realize it was that recent. Wow.

I *love* the live duet of 不能不想你 (of course 😅) ♥ and I'm super intrigued by the YouTube clip because it's from the 2nd season concert and it has camera angles and stuff, yet appears to be a fancam (no iQiyi logo, and the song hasn't been remixed). 多谢 to whoever made it & shared it.
