Chinese textbooks and courses

Apologies if this has come up before, but I couldn't find a post dedicated to it. I've resolved to complement my Duolingo course with some textbooks this year and ordered one second-hand for hanzi mnemonics (in German, in case that's relevant for you ETA: it's a German adaptation of an English book 'Remembering Simplified Hanzi', as I just found out).

Which course textbooks (if any) did you use and what was your experience like?
Did any of you use online courses instead of textbooks? (free or paid)

Additionally, can you recommend a website that explains the radicals well?
