More Guardian Anki Decks: Audio Deck - Episode 08

The poll is not very useful right now, there are ten eps with the same number of votes. (You can still vote in it to prioritize your favorite eps!) I started with the first of those: episode 08. I was also very busy over the summer, so it took a while until I found the time.

308 cards this time, and this episode felt like it had a lot of *long* sentences, i.e. not exactly the easiest deck. Each card comes with a screenshot and audio clip from Guardian episode 08. Simply "Import" into Anki.

motivation to continue

I must admit my motivation to make more of these decks is waning, since I'm not using them myself. I am happy with the (sadly completely non-fandom-related) Spoonfed Chinese Deck (126MB) and the Writing Deck (37MB) I made to go along with it.

So I'm only making these decks for you. So far, the reception was minimal (6 downloads for the last two decks each). Please let me know that you're using them, and I'll be motivated to make more of them.

As you can tell, I'm very slow at making these decks. I'm still looking for help. Don't worry, it's not complicated. I'll tell you what you'll need and where to get it (the subs2srs tool, some Guardian episodes, and their subtitles in both English and Chinese), how the tool works, and what you'll have to do. If we split the work, this should go much faster.

Yeah, these are more for fun than rigorous language learning. The levels of the cards vary *a lot*. I just include everything that is audible (i.e. doesn't have too much background noise).

I like them, because I find that having audio with my vocab is making me remember it better. I find I do much better with sentence-based learning than single characters, ymmv.

If you want recommendations for beginner-level anki decks, I'm happy to suggest some.

I sadly also can't work with the Guardian Learning deck that we made, the sample sentences are too complicated for me. Having the audio alongside it really helps me.

Thanks - I will! Learning to use Anki now and having a ball with the Guardian decks. I expect I'll be able to reel off "we Yashou are a peace-loving people!" in flawless Mandarin in just no time. Or at least know when someone on the street says it to me. (giggling happily)

Lolol, I admit that not all of the contents are super useful in everyday conversation, but they're all the more fun to use for studying, and that's the whole point for me. If some actually useful vocab happens to stick, all the better. :D

(It's the way I do everything - wrap it in fandom to enjoy learning. Might not be the fastest way, but better than no learning at all.)

Especially since I had no interest in learning any Mandarin at all before I fell into the Guardian wormhole! I pointed out this glorious resource to my friend Dasha who is also studying Mandarin as a result of guardian fandom, and she immediately texted back, "OMG, it's not just us!!"

I feel like my flist is chock full of people who fall in love with a fandom and then decide to learn the language. I happened to have learned some Chinese already 30 years ago, but I had the *must learn this language now* experience with Swedish after watching a wonderful Swedish movie. So, um. :D Definitely not just you!

I've been in Guardian fandom since 2018, but kind of squandered my head start :) and have only this year resumed really studying my vocab (and enjoying it immensely, yay).
