Huh, is that how you'd translate that line? I thought it was more something like "through how much practice did you become this version of you", but now I'm no longer sure ...

I don't remember the context of the line, but with no context, I feel like it could go either way... Like, "How much practice [...] to become the way you are," but the [...] could be "did it take" or "would it take" or a more general "does it take"...

Context is unhelpful - the relevant bit goes:

Like, "How much practice [...] to become the way you are," but the [...] could be "did it take" or "would it take" or a more general "does it take"...
Yes, this makes sense to me. And of course it's song lyrics so it might be DELIBERATELY ambiguous...

Leaning towards "did it take for you to become…", simply because "would it take" feels more like 才能成为这样的你 instead…?
