Just a handful of food-related silliness from me today. The word for turkey is apparently 火鸡, which brings to mind for me that famous Stravinsky suite “The Turkey” (okay, I guess it’s “fire chicken” rather than “fire bird,” but still). Mashed potatoes are 土豆泥, potato mud. Also my friend a-Pei likes to bake bread in her spare time, and was complaining to me that her current dough wasn’t working very well. I said 加油! without thinking, and then had to add “no no don’t take that literally it won’t work for the dough. “Oh,” she said, “我其实要加黄油...”
大家也这个周(末)好好努力好好休息,加油!

(She has others on her page as well, and a mix of languages).

Date: 2022-06-13 10:59 pm (UTC)Ooh, those are lovely! I like the kind of fairy-tale realism. Reminds me a little of Yamaguchi Akira, one of my favorite modern artists.

Date: 2022-06-13 06:32 pm (UTC)I continue to lose track of which music I've already recced, but have a duet by Angela Chan and Wang Xi that really works for me despite me not usually liking either rap elements or Angela Chan's quite piercing voice: 黎明前的黑暗

Oh, that is nice! I wonder if it's the very steady, grounding but not aggressive base rhythm.
