oh, nice, thank you! It does look like 薯仔 is Cantonese in origin. I remember JDH's mom saying 洋芋, I wouldn't have thought it was so widely geographically distributed (and it makes good sense etymologically). "Yellow land mines" is a hilarious word for potatoes and certainly in character for Shaoxi!
