Strictly speaking not all the ones on my list are chengyu per se, some are just idioms (not sure where the line falls), but it does give you an idea.

I didn't actually keep track of the repeats, but I know there were some! And yeah, I'm pretty sure there are some which are very everyday and some not. I wonder if there's a list of frequency-of-average-use somewhere....

Good question! I feel like guzhuang dramas would have EVEN MORE, but it's hard to say. Even my recent dabbling with Chinese fic, set in various pretty informal contexts, keeps coming up with chengyu left and right, so maybe "one chengyu every three minutes" really is a pretty average rate?
