(One of those pleasing coincidences—I was watching an older Zhu Yilong livestream (listening practice! really!) in which, according to the subtitles, he was saying “the phone’s quite hot (to the touch).” It sounded to me like hen tang, and I was wondering vaguely why he wasn’t saying 热; Chao-laoshi’s paper notes that “There is only one [English] word 'hot' for both tanq (燙) for temperature and lah (辣) for the taste.” So now I know 烫 for hot, 谢谢你们朱老师,赵教授!)
