I'm reminded by the Da Qing quote... after the 脸 vs 面 discussion we had a couple weeks ago I've been paying a bit of attention and I definitely heard 脸 in an expression that was translated 'lose face'. So. Interchangeable? Regional (which I would guess is 面 preferred in the south, 脸 in the north)? Some ineffable distinction?

(I don't suppose there's a native speaker in the house who can offer tips?)
