It's been almost two years, and I've started another Guardian Learning endeavor: audio decks!
There's a tool called subs2srs that can create anki decks from video (+subtitle) files, and it works great.
The cards look like this (front and back):

But the best thing about them is the audio, of course. :D Choose anki's "Import" function and see how it works! There is no need for text-to-speech in this deck. The package contains mp3 audio clips which I think every OS will play fine, and jpg screenshots. (No video.)
I've made the first deck now:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/3ji9m9nhk80c8wz/Guardian_Audio_Deck_01.apkg (Note that this deck is 20MB in size!)
Let me know if you like this kind of deck!
If there's enough interest, I can make decks for every episode. But I'd very much appreciate help with that. It's not hard to create the cards using the tool. The timeconsuming part is to weed out the unusable segments. I'd rather not clog up the sets with repetitive snippets or clips where you can't hear the speakers over background noise or music. So one has to listen to all the segments and decide which ones to keep. This takes at least as long as the episode is, usually about 50% longer. So it's a bit of a time investment.
Let me know if you want to help, and I'll tell you what you'll need (the subs2srs tool, some Guardian episodes, and their subtitles in both English and Chinese), how the tool works, and what you'll have to do. If we split the work, this should go much faster.
p.s.: you can get Anki here: https://apps.ankiweb.net/

Date: 2023-01-29 09:57 pm (UTC)Yes, you can ask me things about Anki anytime.
I made another deck (two years ago, sadly there are no tags for the decks yet, so they're hard to find) here:

Just, you know, to see how differently cards can look in Anki, if you're interested in customizing it.
