No new music from me today sadly, but here is an older video of Liu Chang narrating his way through a spy (?) video game; I enjoyed it because the visuals make it very easy to understand what he's saying.

Date: 2022-04-25 12:44 am (UTC)Today's tunes: 往后余生 by Ma Liang for nice chill vibes off my Spotify recommendations this week, and this absolutely lit duet of 冷酷到底 by Zhou Shen and Liu Fengyao. (literally lit in the case of that 护心镜 LOL) (also he released like three songs last week this is 完全文不对题 but it's relevant to me)
Also, I just put my finger on why the post title looks a bit off – I don't know offhand if it's an actual grammatical™ requirement, but 105 and such is usually said 一百零五 with the 零 specified (which I strongly suspect is related to the tendency to abbreviate e.g. 150 一百五十 as 一百五, vs 105 as 一零五/一〇五). On a not-actually-similar vein, 115 would be 一百一十五 and so on, up to 120 where things go back to normal(?)

Date: 2022-04-25 02:14 pm (UTC)Okay, you weren't kidding! I didn't watch that much of it, but I could understand a lot more than I was expecting, and I feel slightly less like I know zero Mandarin, suddenly. XD It's nice that it's so slow, so there's time to process what he's saying before he says the next thing. Also watching him play this weird slow blocky video game is oddly not boring... I feel like I should save the link for some possible future time when I may want an hour and a half of continuous low-stakes Mandarin immersion...

Date: 2022-04-25 10:20 pm (UTC)Oh, that's really pretty! (As is he.) And goodness, I see what you mean about the adjectives. I don't know, I listened to the song once and I think it's going to be in my head for a while...

Date: 2022-04-25 10:22 pm (UTC)Yes! I'm not even a game person, but there's something weirdly satisfying about the whole thing, probably directly connected to the ease of understanding. (It helps that he keeps getting tasks wrong and having to do them over, perfect language learning material!)

As I was saying elsewhere, there is a LOT of Liu Chang doing this kind of thing (not all video games) online, let me know any time you want more links ;)

Date: 2022-04-25 10:25 pm (UTC)That is something else. I love the octave voicings breaking out into melody and descant, that's fabulous. (Also thanks 周深, now I know the word 宁愿...)
105 and such is usually said 一百零五 with the 零 specified (
谢谢! I've sneaked back to fix the relevant post titles so as not to lead people (further) wrong. (And here I was so pleased with myself remembering to say 一百 instead of just 百, 我就是二百五?)

Date: 2022-04-26 12:36 am (UTC)Technically, the 一 before 百 is totally dropped a lot of the time in casual i.e. as short as possible speech, so 这么说倒也不算错 XD
