Date: 2023-01-31 08:31 am (UTC)I learned "coarse, crude, rough" as one of the meanings of 草, so I assume that's the connection here? I haven't learned any other compounds where it has that meaning exactly, but looking around I do see 潦草, which apparently describes sloppy handwriting, and there also seem to be a few words like 草稿 (a sketch or rough draft) where it means "rough" in a way that's maybe similar to "careless/sloppy"...
