I am in total agreement with your main point, but this one I find (slightly) less stressful because I just think of it as 好吧 or 行吧, more a couple of useful phrases than a far-reaching grammar point...I hope...

No, you're right to the best of my knowledge; I was thinking of 做不到 as something like "I can't do it (all the way to completion)" (there's a scene from The Rebel where it's used along the lines of "even though I've already started to do X, I can't follow through on what you're ordering me to do," giving me a similar sense).

I can't actually think of a situation where 干什么 would be what to do…? Unless it's like 今天要干什么 the same thing we do every night, try to take over the world!!1!

Probably my favourite usage, not that I actually get to use it IRL, is 干 as slang for kill (干掉他/干了他! etc, which I suspect might crop up in grayswandir's type of shows XD)

See, that makes perfect sense and would've worked well for me, too, if I hadn't already internalised 吧 as "let's" because I made the mistake of starting to learn with duolingo (which does not do nuance, or, in fact, grammar for the most part) and especially then I was still much more stuck in the way I'd previously learned vocab, which was a more straightforward memorisation of x means y, or maybe x means y or z + what part of speech it is. That just doesn't work so well for Mandarin, alas.

Given the part dramas play in most of our studying, it's good to know! (Funny that "do" and 干 and やる all have the same two slang meanings...)
