Oooh, I just read back over a few of these posts, and 由 is such a flummoxing word for me. (Probably because I'm just learning my spoonfed deck and it has no grammar explanations, oops.) Yay now I can go look it up. :D

Glad to be of help! I still don't really understand 由 in general, but this usage seems to make sense...
