You know, when I first started hearing about the endless meanings of 了, I was really glad to be learning Cantonese, because Canto doesn't use 了 (except in compounds like 了解). I've managed to spend several years mostly ignoring it. Which has been great. XD
But alas! I recently found out that one of the Cantonese final particles I've always had trouble understanding is... basically the same thing as 了. It's a bit different because it's a final particle and can only come at the end of a sentence, but it tends to come at the end of sentences that would have a 了 in them if they were in Mandarin. *laughing-crying emoji* So apparently I need to learn how to use 了 after all.
